The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utsev on Wednesday met with the the Ambassador- Designate Republic of Poland Michal Cygan in Abuja, where they discussed diplomatic issues of partnership.
Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister, Terhemen Oraduen in a post on Facebook said, the Polish envoy had paid Professor Utsev a courtesy visit.
“The two leaders had a fruitful discussion on strengthening partnership between Nigeria and Poland, especially in the areas of flood control and scaling up irrigation farming in Nigeria,” the statement said.
Nigeria and Poland have long-standing diplomatic relations that date back to 1962, evolving into a multifaceted partnership with recent strategic expansions.
NewsQuest reports that Poland’s President Andrzej Sebastian Duda in 2022 made the first presidential visit to Nigeria since 1961, signing a strategic agriculture memorandum of understanding.
The existing Polish-Nigerian Business Council (PNBC) facilitates trade, investment, and joint ventures in sectors like energy, manufacturing, and natural resources.
Both countries have sustained partnerships on areas of biodiversity, afforestation, and flood management projects that assist in tackling other relevant environmental issues.
