First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Wednesday urged voters in the South‑East to back her husband, President Bola Tinubu, in next year’s presidential election, linking the administration’s re‑election prospects to continued economic initiatives for women.
Speaking during an official visit to Imo State to distribute business equipment to women, Mrs. Tinubu said her husband along her and the government were “working to improve the country” and appealed directly to beneficiaries to support the president’s bid for a second term.
“Make una vote for Mr. President; we go work for una and Nigeria go better,” she said in remarks delivered in a mix of English and local pidgin.
NewsQuest reports that the event, organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, is part of a national empowerment programme that the first lady said will benefit 18,500 women across Nigeria when complete.
In the South‑East, 500 women from each of the five states were slated to receive items such as generators, commercial grinding machines, gas cylinders and ovens to support small enterprises.
First Lady Tinubu said Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma had provided additional equipment for 2,000 women in the state, bringing Imo’s total beneficiaries to 2,500.
In response, she announced a supplemental cash grant of N100,000 for each beneficiary in Imo.
“This initiative recognises the role of women in nation‑building and economic development,” she said, urging recipients to use the tools to expand livelihoods and support their families.
Governor Uzodimma praised the First Lady and the Federal Government’s interventions, telling the gathering that Imo residents were satisfied with the president’s performance and would back his re‑election in 2027.
“We stand with him,” he said, commending federal infrastructure projects and promising that the state’s voters would “speak with one united, unequivocal voice” in January 2027.
During the visit, traditional authorities in the Stae conferred on Mrs. Tinubu the chieftaincy title of Osodieme.
