Dangote Refinery opens IPO on Nigerian Exchange at N525 a Share

Dangote Refinery Plc launched its initial public offering Monday on the Nigerian Exchange, offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 apiece in a move that marks one of the country’s largest market debuts in recent years.

The share sale, which is scheduled to close on Oct. 13, carries a minimum subscription of 10 shares, or N5,250, according to the company’s prospectus.

The flotation is aimed at broadening the refinery’s shareholder base after years of buildup for the sprawling oil-processing complex—part of industrialist Aliko Dangote’s strategy to capture a larger slice of Nigeria’s fuel market and reduce the nation’s dependence on imports.

Dangote Refinery, which began commercial operations earlier this year, has been central to calls for domestic refining capacity and energy-sector self-sufficiency.

Market participants will be watching subscription levels closely as a gauge of retail and institutional appetite for energy-sector assets amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic and currency challenges.

Investors should review the offering documents for details on allocation, use of proceeds and potential risks, including exposure to crude-oil price fluctuations and refining margins.

The IPO follows a broader trend of flagship domestic listings that aim to deepen local capital markets while offering Nigerians direct stakes in large-scale industrial projects.
