Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Umo Eno has said that his decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), was in the best interest of his people in uniting with the government at the center to attract huge development projects.

With this move, Pastor Eno becomes the second PDP Governor in the South-South region to join the APC in less than two months, following Governor Oborevwori’s defection.

The APC formally welcomed Governor Eno, following his defection to the ruling party.

Governor Eno, who was elected under the platform of the PDP, officially defected to the APC at a ceremony held at the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.

Announcing his defection, the Akwa Ibom Governor also wrote on his official Facebook page “Today, I announced my formal movement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My decision is driven by enlightened state interest and the need to align Akwa Ibom State with the Federal Government to attract more development and opportunities for our people. I have always believed that political parties are vehicles to get elected, but governance must be about unity, inclusivity, and shared values.

“As I step into this new chapter, I remain committed to the values that have guided me throughout my public service: transparency, bipartisanship, and an unwavering focus on the collective good of Akwa Ibom.

“I assure you, my dear Akwaibomites, that I will continue to work tirelessly for our state’s growth, peace, and prosperity. Let us move forward together, united in purpose, driven by hope, and dedicated to building a stronger, more inclusive Akwa Ibom,” he stressed.

The APC in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party’s National Working Committee expressed delight at Eno’s decision, describing it as a significant boost to both the party and the people of Akwa Ibom.

“The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress is delighted at the news of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Umo Eno’s decision to join our great party,” the statement read.

APC expressed confidence that the governor’s move would advance the development of the state and align with the broader goals of the APC-led federal government.

“We are confident that his thoughtful decision will contribute to the greater progress of Akwa Ibom State and its people,” the statement continued.

The APC further assured the governor of its full support and cooperation as he integrates into the party and emphasized a collective commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at national growth and prosperity.

The party pledged to work closely with the governor to ensure a smooth transition and to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Akwa Ibom.
