A shooting near the White House perimeter prompted an immediate lockdown Monday evening, just before President Donald Trump’s scheduled press conference.

The incident occurred at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, according to journalists on the scene.

Secret Service Uniformed Division officers opened fire on a man they believed to be armed, said Susan Crabtree, a RealClearPolitics reporter who witnessed the event.

Details on the man’s condition or the extent of the threat are not yet available.
