President Bola Tinubu vowed on Monday to “rescue” Nigeria as he hosted about 20 Governors from across political divide at the Presidential Villa for the breaking of fast.
Speaking to the gathering including officials of government, President Tinubu praised the Governors for their “progress” and “collective achievements” restating his earlier stands on the establishment of State Police as the bulwark against insecurity.
“What I promise, we will establish state police to combat securities,” President Tinubu stressed.
“I thank God for what we’ve been able to achieve together,” he said, surprised by the turnout of the Governors at the event despite rival party congresses.
“I didn’t expect this number to show up.”
With Ramadan coinciding with Christian Lent—a rare convergence he hailed as a summons to “discipline, sacrifice, faith, perseverance.
The President also exhorted the Governors to let “the young ones breathe too” and prioritise “unity, harmony and sacrifice”.
He lauded Borno State Babagana Zulum’s lavish Ramadan feasts, quipping: “I saw the layout of those Ramadan outings… I thought you will eat all the 300,000…”

Speaking of the Governors, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who is the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum assured the President that his colleagues were strongly behind his government to succeed in lifting the country to greater heights.
Governor Uzodimma who praised President Tinubu’s reforms, which he said have benefited the sub-national government, extended the appreciation of his colleagues over the interventions of the Federal Government and support to States.
