President Bola Tinubu, has removed Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector General of Police (IGP), paving the way for a new appointment, sources close to the presidency said.
NewsQuest gathered Egbetokun was instructed Monday night to resign during a private meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“It was in that meeting he was asked to go,” one source told our correspondent.
President Tinubu is expected to name Egbetokun’s successor imminently, though no further details were available at the time of filing this report.
Egbetokun served as Nigeria’s 22nd IGP from June 2023 until his resignation.
He previously served as Chief Security Officer to President Tinubu during his time as Lagos State Governor (1999–2005).
The former IGP also held roles like Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos.
