President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday directed the nation’s security chiefs to deploy immediately to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to take charge of the response to a series of deadly terrorist attacks that struck military positions.

In a statement, which hebpersonally signed, President Tinubu expressed condolences to the people of Borno, and described the assaults as “desperate and frantic attempts” by terrorists under mounting pressure from Nigerian forces.

The President commended troops and civilian task forces for repelling the coordinated strikes, vowing that “there is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety.”

President Tinubu’s order to the security chiefs came amid fresh violence in the country’s restive northeast, where Boko Haram and its splinter groups have waged a 17-year insurgency, killing tens of thousands and displacing millions.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” Tinubu said.

Although details of Monday’s attacks remained unclear Tuesday, President Tinubu said they reflected the “final desperate acts” of “evil-minded” militants.

The President instructed emergency agencies to ensure proper care for the injured.

He noted that during a security meeting last weekend with intelligence and agency leaders, he had already approved additional equipment and operational support — measures now underway to bolster capabilities against criminal elements nationwide.

“We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them,” President Tinubu said.

“Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” he stressed.
