President Bola Tinubu on Thursday nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, a veteran fiscal reformer and former KPMG Africa senior partner, as the new Minister of Power.
The nomination, transmitted to the Senate for confirmation, fills the vacancy left by Adebayo Adelabu, who resigned to pursue elective office.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President Bayo Onanuga said Tegbe, an Oyo State native with more than 35 years bridging public and private sectors, brings deep experience in economic restructuring and governance.
At KPMG, he headed advisory services, steering fiscal policy overhauls, institutional makeovers, and regulatory frameworks for government bodies and businesses.
He now serves as Director-General and global liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating bilateral ties under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to boost economic and social development.
His track record includes hands-on work in the nation’s power sector, advising regulators like the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company on reforms.
Onanuga said President Tinubu expects Tegbe, if confirmed, to accelerate grid stabilization, draw sustainable investment, and advance the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for reliable electricity.
