President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with Taiwo Oyedele, his nominee for the Minister of state Finance in a closed-door session at the Presidential Villa — the first of such encounter since the nomination.
Although, no official reason was given for the meeting, which precedes the nominee’s confirmation by the Senate and subsequent swearing-in, NewsQuest reports that the session signals progress in President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen his economic team in addressing the nation’s fiscal and monetary challenges.
Oyedele who currently heads the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms, was nominated by President Tinubu on March 3, 2026 as Minister of state for finance, and will replace Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, who shifts her role to Minister of state Budget and Economic Planning.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President Bayo Onanuga in an earlier statement said President Tinubu in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, had requested the confirmation of the 50-year-old Economist and Accountant.
