President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved a specialized committee to draft a five‑year strategic defence cooperation plan for the country.
The move is aimed at streamlining military and intelligence coordination across the federal security apparatus.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, told State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at Aso Rock that the panel will bring together senior security officials from across the government.
He said the membership will include the National Security Adviser (NSA), both Ministers of Defence, the chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and the Director-General of the State Security Service, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The President’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security will serve as the committee’s secretariat.
“The council today also approved the establishment of a drafting committee for a five‑year strategic defence cooperation plan,” Minister Idris said.
The Minister while describing the group’s composition and role said, it has been given 90 days to produce and deliver its report to the President.
