President Bola Tinubu has named Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju‑Smart as his special adviser on National Assembly matters for the House of Representatives, the presidency said Monday.
Dr. Wasiu, 40, succeeds Honourable Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who stepped down to pursue an elective post in his home State.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President in a statement said the appointment takes effect immediately.
A scholar and public‑policy specialist, Dr. Wasiu holds a Ph.D. in educational management from Lead City University and a master’s in public administration from Harvard University.
He is an Edward S. Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, is also a LEAPS fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and completed a professional diploma in public relations at the London School of Public Relations.
He also served as a policy fellow at Quantum Alliance AI in the United States, focusing on artificial intelligence and civic technology.
Dr. Wasiu’s parliamentary experience spans roles as research and media assistant to the minority and majority leaders during the 7th and 8th assemblies, and later as special adviser, deputy chief of staff, and chief of staff to the speaker in the 9th and 10th assemblies.
He joined the presidency in October 2023 as Senior Special Assistant on intergovernmental affairs.
His policy work includes contributions to several legislative initiatives, among them the Interest‑Free Student Loan Act.
The statement said President Tinubu expects Dr. Wasiu to strengthen coordination between the presidency, government agencies and the House of Representatives.
