SGF, Senator George Akume’s focus on economic diversification is aimed at reducing Nigeria’s over-dependence on oil revenue by strengthening non-oil sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals, manufacturing, and services. As SGF, his role involves coordinating ministries and agencies to ensure policies that support these sectors are properly implemented, especially those that promote value addition, exports, and job creation across the country.
A major aspect of this objective is improving infrastructure and the business environment to attract private sector investment.
Akume has consistently emphasized the need for better transportation networks, energy supply, and logistics systems to enable producers, particularly in non-oil regions, to access local and international markets. These efforts are intended to make Nigerian products more competitive and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
Looking toward 2026, Akume’s push for economic diversification aligns with broader federal reforms designed to stabilize the economy, expand revenue sources, and support sustainable growth.
By coordinating economic policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda, his goal is to ensure that diversification translates into tangible benefits for citizens, including increased employment opportunities, stronger small and medium-scale enterprises, and improved national resilience against global economic shocks.
