Former Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti has won the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for the Ondo Central senatorial seat in the party’s primary for the 2027 general election.

Taiwo polled 36,652 votes, which was 84.0% of the total, ahead of Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire and Dr. Sylvester Muyiwa Adu in the primary election held Monday across the district.

The two rivals in the contest; Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire – a serving lawmaker in the National Assembly trailed behind with 5,733 votes (13.1%), and Dr. Sylvester Muyiwa Adu who received 1,245 votes (2.9%).

The son of Afenifere leader Chief Reuben Fasoranti secured Monday’s primary, prevailing by 30,919 votes out of 43,630 ballots cast.

The result was announced by the Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Engineer Thomas Olufemi Awosika.

Engineer Awosika said the exercise was conducted in line with the APC constitution and electoral guidelines.

Dr. Taiwo has since assured that the people of Ondo deserve nothing short of purposeful representation in the National Assembly.

NewsQuest reports that the party stakeholders have described the process as peaceful in most wards – though not without pockets of tension in parts of Akure South during the collation.
