The Federal Government and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have agreed to deepen cooperation in advancing training, innovation, and institutional development.
The understanding was reached during a sideline high-level meeting between the Special Assistant to the President on Capacity Development Mr. Sadiq Rabiu, Ms. Michelle Gylle-Mcdonnough, UNITAR Executive Director and the UN Assistant Secretary-General at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York United States of America.
Both leaders discussed ways of aligning joint initiatives with Nigeria’s national priorities and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with emphasis on building human capital, particularly around youth skills development.
Speaking, Rabiu said “Nigeria’s greatest asset is its people. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, we are determined to unlock this potential through training, innovation, and institutional reform. Our collaboration with UNITAR enables us to draw on global expertise to deliver practical solutions that prepare Nigerians to lead, serve, and compete on the world stage.”
On her part, Ms. Gylle-Mcdonnough commended Nigeria’s proactive approach to capacity development and reaffirmed UNITAR’s readiness to design and implement impactful programmes with the Government of Nigeria.
She said the partnership represents a key step in President Bola Tinubu’s strategy to leverage international cooperation as a driver of sustainable national development.
