The Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has formally opened a reconstructed stretch of the Nassarawa–Flour Mills Road, a key urban artery that links Kaduna South and Chikun local government areas and provides a direct route between industrial zones, markets and public institutions across the city.

Governor Sani on his official Facebook page said he presided over the commissioning of the corridor, which runs from the Zenith Bank roundabout on Old Kachia Road through the Makera and Kakuri districts to the Western Bypass.

According to him, the project, stalled at roughly 15 percent completion when his administration took office, has now been finished following what he described as disciplined planning and focused execution.

“The road will shorten journey times, reduce transportation costs and strengthen access to the Makera–Kakuri industrial axis,” Governor Sani said.

He noted that the upgrade includes improved drainage and solar-powered streetlights, measures intended to cut flooding and improve safety after dark.

“This is the Kaduna we are building: better connected, more productive and increasingly prosperous,” Governor Sani said.

Local business leaders and residents at the commissioning praised the improvement, saying the renovated route would ease the movement of goods and people and expand access to schools, clinics and emergency services. “This is vital for our livelihoods and for attracting investment,” said one community representative.

NewsQuest reports that urban connector roads such as the Nassarawa–Flour Mills corridor can have outsized effects on local economies by lowering logistics costs, improving labour mobility and increasing the attractiveness of nearby properties for commercial use.

Kaduna, a northern manufacturing and services hub, has pursued a series of road and utilities upgrades as part of a broader push to stimulate employment and private-sector activity.

The current project, which also incorporates several features is aimed at long-term sustainability.

The solar-powered component streetlights underline a growing trend among Nigerian states to rely on off-grid energy solutions for public lighting amid persistent power shortages.

The improved drainage is expected to reduce seasonal flooding, a recurring problem that can cripple commerce and damage infrastructure.

As Kaduna seeks to attract investors and foster small- and medium-sized enterprises, the government said tangible improvements in transportation and services are central to sustaining growth.

For residents and traders along the Nassarawa–Flour Mills corridor, the newly completed road offers an immediate, visible sign of progress.
