Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, on Monday made a formal public acknowledgment of feudal allegiance to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, at his private residence in Abuja after a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed his election victory of March 18, 2023.
A five-man panel of justices of the Apex Court dismissed an appeal that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate Titus Uba had lodged to challenge the outcome of the election.
Governor Alia was at the Supreme Court personally with crucial members of his team to witness the judgment which further legitimized his government.
Governor Alia was accompanied to Akume’s house by close friends, a vista of signal that party stakeholders believe, could reopen a fresh friendly relationship between the two leaders.

Speculations have recently been rife that Governor Alia and Senator Akume had fallen apart regarding their friendship, shortly after Alia emerged victorious in the 2023 governorship election in the State.
Newsquest investigation revealed that the victory at the Supreme Court, which prompted the visit to Akume, and the fresh show of loyalty from the governor is likely to further assist in cementing the earlier political ties between the two Benue leaders.
