Wife of the Presisent and Forst Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged global unity in tackling cancer by centring individual stories and ensuring compassionate, accessible care.
In a statement she personally signed, Senator Tinubu emphasised that “every cancer journey is different, yet our hope is shared”.
She called for a response rooted in prevention, early detection, quality treatment, and ongoing support, declaring: “By listening to individual stories and placing people at the centre of care, we can build a stronger, more compassionate response to cancer.”
The First Lady’s message aligns with the World Health Organization’s stark warnings on cancer’s toll in low- and middle-income countries such as Nigeria, where late diagnoses and limited access claim over 100,000 lives annually, according to recent data.
Her appeal highlights the need to “unite voices and actions” towards a cancer-free future, echoing the day’s global push for personalised medicine amid rising cases worldwide.
NewsQuest reports that the First Lady’s intervention also comes as African nations grapple with strained health systems- while in Nigeria, breast and cervical cancers dominate, disproportionately affecting women in underserved areas.
