Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, on Wednesday, began talks with officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Fiscal Affairs Department (IFAD) for a partnership of support on Nigeria’s National Single Window (NSW) project.
The NSW is a federal initiative designed to streamline trade processes by integrating and harmonizing data from multiple government agencies.
Dr. Adedeji met with the IMF delegation led by Mr. Marco Siqueira in Abuja.
The FIRS in a statement on its Facebook page said “The objective of the visit was to discuss areas where the IMF can provide technical assistance to the National Single Window Team.
“Discussions centered on understanding the project’s scope, progress made, and key implementation details,” it added.
NewsQuest reports that the NSW also seeks to enhance economic efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and increase transparency in import and export procedures.
The NSW project involves the creation of a centralized electronic platform for traders to submit and receive information related to trade processes.
The process is expected to generate about $3 billion in annual revenue, with key stakeholders including the FIRS, Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), and other government agencies.
A senior presidency official who does not want to be quoted in print because he was not authorized to speak, said the NSW project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and aims to transform Nigeria into a leading trade hub in Africa.
