The Federal Government on Sunday promised to apprehend and prosecute those behind the killing of villagers in Plateau State, insisting that the days of reckless and brutal massacre of innocent citizens and destruction of properties in any part of the country were over.
Search and rescue efforts from the massive attacks revealed that the death toll has risen to 52.
National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu said this in Jos, the Plateau State capital in a chat with journalists, when he visited a scene of wanton killings by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.
The attacks, which resulted in significant casualties in the Bokkos Local Government area, have affected several villages including Hurti, Manguna, and Daffo communities, with the state government condemning the unfortunate incident.
“We will find and prosecute them; enough is enough”, Ribadu said at the headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN in Jos.
The NSA commended the General Officer Commanding 3 Division (GOC), and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola for containing the crisis, an intervention by the military, which he noted helped to forestall further escalation of the killings.
“We must commend the efforts of the military in maintaining peace, restoring order, and protecting the people. Acting instantly in the middle of a crisis.
“Nigeria will continue to be grateful to members of the armed forces and the security services.
“We are going through tough times, difficult times, but it’s not going to be forever. The issue of security is for all of us. We all have to come together. Everyone has a role to play.
“But I think that communities, those who have been living together for years and decades, it is time for us to say enough is enough. Our security forces are doing well, but our communities can do even better.
“We have lost many people, but it is not exactly like the figures you see out there. Even one soul lost is a lot.
“We also appeal to the media to verify and report accurate, appropriate information. Telling the truth helps us get through this together. It helps us feel. It helps us keep our contracts and live in peace and security”, the NSA said.
NewsQuest reports that gunmen had attacked Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti, and Tadai communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of the state on the night of April 2nd, 2025, and opened fire on innocent citizens, resulting in several deaths.
