Vice President Kashim Shettima said Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was committed to easing the economic strain on Nigerians, urging patience as officials work to address rising living costs.
Speaking to reporters after Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State, Shettima acknowledged global inflationary pressures but appealed for calm and national unity.
“Government at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people,” he said, calling for peace “not only in Borno, but in all the nooks and crannies of the country,” and urging peaceful coexistence among citizens.
Turning to the political calendar, Shettima warned parties and candidates to temper rhetoric as the country heads toward the 2027 general elections.
“There is the need for maturity, forbearance and generosity of spirit in our political interactions,” he said, adding that shared national interests “supersede whatever divides us.”
He also cited global instability, including the war in the Middle East, as a complicating factor for governments worldwide.
Shortly after the prayers, Borno Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur visited Shettima’s residence to pay Sallah homage and to commend the vice president’s support for the state.
Kadafur wished the Vice President a happy Eid and urged residents to pray for “sustainable peace, progress and prosperity” across Nigeria, describing the day’s celebrations as peaceful.
