A socio-cultural organization from Benue State on Saturday honored Professor Sabastine Hon, a renowned Nigerian legal scholar, with the traditional title ‘Mule u Kwande’ in recognition of his philanthropy and advocacy for the Tiv people.
The United People’s Organization (KWUPO) Abuja chapter decorated the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at its 2025 special day celebration.
KWUPO said, Professor Hon has remained a fearless voice for justice across the Middle Belt region, an area severely ravaged by increasing insecurity that has claimed thousands of lives.
“KWUPO Abuja chapter rises today to honour a man whose intellect has guided nations, whose voice has defended justice, whose courage has strengthened the weak, and whose compassion has lifted the souls of our people,” the group said.
Accepting the award, Professor Hon said he was excited that this was the first time he was receiving such an elevated honour from the clan.
Professor Hon who spoke in the Tiv language and was interpreted by our correspondent said
“I have a longstanding history with the people of Kwande and I am inspired by this honour, and energized to do more.
“Our father, former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), late Justice Katsina Alu played a crucial role in my elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate. I will never forget the support of this great Kwande son,” he added.
Speaking further, Professor Hon advised the people of Kwande to remain united, always standing for the truth in order the fight their common enemy, especially with the growing insecurity in the State.
“This special honour done to me, will spur me into greater actions, no I urge the people of Kwande not to allow politics to divide you,” the legal luminary said.
KWUPO at the ceremony also honored one it’s illustrious sons, Dr. Emmanuel Adamgbe, an Economist working at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as Leader, Mentor, and Shining Ambassador of the Kwande heritage.
“Today, we celebrate a man whose life has lifted many, whose hands has opened doors, and whose talent beats for every one of us,” KWUPO said.
Acting President of KWUPO Abuja chapter, Agbul Philip in his remarks at the event said the organization continues to initiate peace processes aimed at healing old wounds and restoring harmony among its members.
He therefore, commended members and guests for their participation in the special ceremony.
