Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, has won the “Advocate of the Masses and Human Rights” award 2024.
This second national recognition and award is coming barely eleven months since he was sworn-in as governor of the State on 29th May 2023.
Governor Alia in Mach last year also won the Leadership Newspaper 2023 “Governor of the Year Award” for his exceptional leadership in providing good governance to the people of the State, through prudence, transparency, accountability, and a consciencous effort to block wastages.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula said the award was presented to the Benue State Governor at the 2024 Press Freedom and Good Governance Awards Night and Dinner organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abuja.

Organizers of the event said Governor Alia’s resolved to give priority attention to the yearnings of the masses and his determination to fulfil his covenant with the people of Benue State earned him the award.
According to Kula, Governor Alia was accompanied to the award ceremony by some major stakeholders from the state.
Among them were the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, the Deputy Speaker Mrs. Lami Danladi and some principal officers of the House; House of Representatives Members, Hon. Solomon Wombo, Hon. Blessing Onuh, Hon. David Ogewu; Elders Senator (Chief) Barnabas Gemade, Gen. Lawrence Onoja rtd, Senator Joseph Akaagerger, Professor Stephen Ugba, General India Garba (rtd) and the entire members of the Benue State executive council led by the Deputy Governor, Barrister Sam Ode.
