Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia on Sunday participated in a high-powered meeting with the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organisation (GEIDCO) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) at the ongoing 2024 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Governor Alia is among Vice President Kashim Shettima’s official delegation to this year’s UNGA. Shettima is representing President Bola Tinubu at the event.

An excited Governor Alia who is passionate about making a development change in Benue wrote on his Facebook page; “Yesterday, I had the honour of participating in a crucial meeting with the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organisation (GEIDCO) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).”

“Our discussions centred around research on the Global Electricity Development Index, an important tool that will help guide the future of energy development worldwide.

“The event provided a unique opportunity to foster global exchange and cooperation within the energy sector, as we explored actionable initiatives and strategies to drive the world toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions,” he added.

Alia said “I remain committed to ensuring that Benue State is well-positioned to benefit from and contribute to this global energy transition, which is vital for sustainable growth, climate action, and the well-being of our people.

“I was accompanied by Hon. Michael Oglegba, the Honourable Commissioner of Finance; Hon. Fidelis Unongo, Special Adviser on Special Duties & Intergovernmental Affairs; Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, Managing Director of BIPC; and Josephine Habba, Director General of the Benue Peace and Reconciliation Commission.”
