President Bola Tonubu has pledged to intensify efforts to strengthen the country’s security forces in the battle against terrorism and banditry, describing ongoing violence and killings as “foreign” to local cultures.

The President stated this on Monday at the opening session of a two-day national economic summit convened at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to bolster coordination between the Federal Government and 36 States of the Federation to drive inclusive growth.

He said “I am leaving here to further find means to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism. That I promise you.”

Tinubu stressed that “It is what has kept all of us sleepless at night.

“But I assure you that we will win with determination and resilience. This unacceptable terrorism and banditry is not part of our culture. It is foreign to us,” the President said.

The President’s pledge comes as Nigeria grapples with persistent attacks by armed groups and criminal gangs, which have displaced thousands and strained military resources.

President who assured the gathering that many of the reforms his government embarked upon were fast yielding results said, his administration is working hard to strengthen the macro-economic environment to guarantee growth and development.

He commended the Governor of the Cenetral Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso for supporting the government to push through a reliable monetary policy that is fast yielding results.

President Tinubu challenged participants at the summit convened under the National Economic Council (NEC) and chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima to come out with workable policy ideas that will support the governments at all levels to deliver on the economy.

“I am confident that the resolution of this conference will include dairy farming, livestock investment, ranching and diversification of our agricultural produce,” he added.
