Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai was confirmed Monday as the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) consensus candidate for Yobe South senatorial district ahead of the 2027 general elections, following party consultations aimed at averting factional splits.

Leaders, elders and political stakeholders from across the senatorial district met at the Federal College of Education multipurpose hall in Potiskum, where the speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Buba Mashio, presided over the proceedings.

APC chieftains, youth groups and supporters attended the session, party officials said.

The decision to back Bomai came after “extensive consultations,” according to party sources, who said the move was intended to preserve unity and smooth the party’s path to next year’s polls.

Bomai, who previously withdrew from the State’s governorship race, emerged as the compromise choice for the senatorial ticket.

Supporters at the event pointed to Bomai’s experience and record within the party as reasons for rallying around him.

In his remarks after the affirmation, Bomai thanked party leaders and pledged to prioritize constituents’ interests, promising to “serve our people diligently” if returned to the National Assembly.

He lauded fellow aspirants for accepting the consensus process and urged members to subordinate personal ambition to the party’s collective goals.

NewsQuest reports that if re-elected, Bomai would secure a third term in the Senate, a milestone not yet achieved by a senator from Yobe South.
