Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday said that President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms are helping Nigerian companies scale internationally, citing fintech firms such as Flutterwave and Moniepoint and tech services company Andela as examples.
Shettima made the comments during a courtesy visit from a Flutterwave delegation led by Chief Executive Officer Olugbenga Agboola.
Flutterwave, a Nigerian payments infrastructure company that serves global merchants and payment providers, has emerged as one of Africa’s highest-profile fintechs.
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication Stanley Knwocha, the Vice President said “We have to support and promote our own. We have to make our companies stronger.”
He praised Flutterwave for building “one of Africa’s most compelling technology stories from Nigeria.”
The Vice President pledged continued federal support for the company both domestically and abroad.
Vice President Shettima credited the company’s leadership and technical expertise for using an indigenous solution to tackle payment challenges across the continent, remarks that align with the Tinubu administration’s broader push to boost local firms through policy changes across multiple sectors.
Agboola told the Vice President that Flutterwave aims to sustain rapid growth over the coming years and to remain a dominant payments and banking player in Africa and beyond.
He thanked President Tinubu and the federal government for their backing, calling it “a strategic signal of how Nigeria is supporting Nigeria.”
Monday’s meeting was also attended by Stanley Uzochukwu, chief executive of Stanel Group, and other senior Flutterwave executives.
