President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila on Monday appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), as part of an investigation into a purportedly fraudulent outfit known as “PFIPC,” his legal team said.

The Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, is a body that the Presidency has since disowned, describing it as fake or without legal backing.

Our correspondent gathered the said agency got into the 2026 budget, receiving a shared allocation of N1.3 billion.

Acting on directives of the President, Gbajabiamila attended the ICPC office at about 3:00pm and provided testimony, answered investigators’ questions and subsequently returned to his official duties, the Chief of Staff’s counsel, Jiti Ogunye of Jiti Ogunye Chambers, said in a statement.

The lawyer added that Gbajabiamila cooperated fully with the probe.

NewsQuest reports that the self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi of the ‘fake’ agency was arrested in July 2026 after the government disowned the agency, citing forgery and impersonation.

The presidency announced that the PFIPC had never been created by law, by presidential order nor by any other official instrument.

President Tinubu ordered the ICPC to investigate the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, giving a 30 day deadline for the entire process.

The House of Representatives has also inaugurated an ad hoc committee to investigate the legal basis for the establishment and operations of the PFIPC, including the circumstances surrounding its inclusion in the Federal Government’s budget framework.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee in Abuja on Monday, Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, said the investigation is intended to establish the facts surrounding the council’s creation and operations,.

The Speaker stressed that it is neither politically motivated nor aimed at fuelling public controversy.
