President Bola Tinubu on Saturday commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his handling of the state’s political crisis, telling the Governor he would not regret his decision to accept reconciliation and preserve peace.
Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Rivers State, Tinubu praised Fubara’s “maturity, understanding and respect for the wisdom of elders” after the president’s intervention in a dispute he described as a misunderstanding within the political family.
“Fubara, you will not regret what you have done as long as all of us are alive,” Tinubu said, addressing the Governor directly before supporters.
“When we intervened, you respected our position. You maintained peace. You are a committed democrat,” Tinubu said.
The President’s remarks came as Fubara publicly aligned himself with Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, pledging that Rivers State would deliver three million votes for the President.
Tinubu also thanked Nigerian youths for helping preserve stability and urged them to sustain their commitment to peace.
The comments underscore the President’s effort to describe the resolution of the Rivers crisis as a victory for party cohesion and stability, rather than a personal political setback for either Fubara or his rival, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
Tinubu praised Wike as a development partner of his administration, while presenting Fubara’s acceptance of the reconciliation as evidence of statesmanship.
The President’s assurance, that Fubara would not regret his choices, signaled an attempt to consolidate the governor’s political realignment ahead of the 2027 election.
