President Bola Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast Thursday morning as Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, with the address scheduled for 7 a.m. local time, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on information and strategy.

The presidency has directed all television and radio stations, along with other electronic media outlets, to carry the address by linking to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.

The advisory is standard for major presidential broadcasts in Nigeria, ensuring uniform transmission across public and private broadcasters.

The country gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, making Thursday’s observance the country’s 66th anniversary as a sovereign nation.

The President’s speech is expected to be a centerpiece of the day’s official commemorations.

Annual independence-day addresses by Nigerian heads of state typically review national progress, outline policy priorities and call for unity amid economic and security challenges.

This year’s low-key celebration programme, unveiled by the federal government earlier in September, includes a public lecture on Wednesday and the presidential broadcast on Thursday.
