President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday ordered total compliance with his earlier directive to withdraw all policemen attached to VIPs across the country.
“We face challenges here and there of kidnapping and terrorism. We need all the forces that we can utilize,” Tinubu said shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja.
The President said he understands that some individuals were exposed and needed some level of protection; the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will suffice.
“I know some of our people are exposed, and understand that we have to make exceptional provision for them, and the civil defense is equally armed.”
“The Minister for interior should liaise with IGP and the civil defense structure to replace those police officers who are on special security duties, so that you don’t leave people exposed.
“The NSA and DSS to provide further information and form themselves into a committee and review the structure. It should be effected,” the President stressed.
President Tinubu also directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), to work earnestly in ensuring that Forest Guards across all Nigerian forests are armed.
NewsQuest reports that the latest moves by the President are part of his comprehensive decision to tackle rising insecurity in parts of the country.
Nigeria currently faces overlapping security challenges including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, farmer–herder violence, and other criminality.
