President Bola Tinubu has offered condolences to the families of those killed in a Boko Haram attack in Ngoshe community in Gwoza, Borno State.
Innocent civilians and soldiers died in the attack.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga in a statement on Friday said President Tinubu described the terrorist raid as a “heartless assault on hapless citizens” and urged residents of Borno and beyond not to give in to fear.
He praised the military’s rapid response, which killed scores of attackers and forced their retreat, but tasked security forces with urgently rescuing those abducted.
The President further directed the armed forces to ramp up civilian protection across the country and bolster defences against strikes on northeastern military sites.
President Tinubu prayed for the souls of the dead—both from the attack and friendly fire—and expressed sympathy to their families and Borno state government.
The assault also saw Nigerian air force strikes on fleeing militants catch some locals in friendly fire, according to a statement from the presidency.
