President Bola Tinubu on Thursday mourned the deaths of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade in a terrorist assault on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State, calling them “unforgettable heroes”.
The President in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga rallied Nigerians to stand firmly behind the nation’s Armed Forces.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the coordinated early Thursday attack by Boko Haram insurgents on the Operation Hadin Kai base, which killed several troops including Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah.
The soldiers fought back fiercely, preventing the militants from overrunning nearby communities.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the military’s ongoing offensives, which he said have neutralized numerous insurgents and commanders.
“The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation,” he said, vowing that the government’s resolve to crush terrorism remains unshaken.
President Tinubu extended condolences to the victims’ families and the military, promising enhanced equipment and welfare support.
He implored the armed forces not to waver and called on the public and media to reject any glorification of attacks on troops.
“These soldiers are our heroes; unforgettable and irreplaceable,” he said.
