President Bola Tinubu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan wrapped up bilateral talks on Tuesday, signing nine landmark agreements spanning defence, trade, education, diaspora engagement, media cooperation, diplomacy training, social development, and halal quality infrastructure.
Special Adviser on Media and Policy Communication to the President Danial Bwala in a post on his official Xhandle said Tinubu’s trip to the transcontinental nation bridging Europe and Asia was not a ceremony but a structure for jobs, knowledge exchange, and stronger institutions.
“Yesterday, President Tinubu and President Erdoğan concluded bilateral talks with 9 solid agreements covering defense, trade, education, diaspora engagement, media, diplomacy training, social development, and even halal quality infrastructure.
“This is not a ceremony but a structure for jobs, knowledge exchange, stronger institutions, and global positioning for Nigerians,” Bwala noted.
The presidential aide stressed that President remains focused on building partnerships that translate to real impact back home. Step by step, Nigeria is expanding its economic, educational, and strategic footprint on the global stage, and the work continues.
The presidency in a statement said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Türkiye, announced his country targets a $5 billion trade volume with Nigeria, adding that discussions to actualise this have already commenced.
President Erdogan stated this during a joint press briefing with President Bola Tinubu during the State Visit.
“At present, the trade volume between the two nations is about $2 billion. Turkey exports planes, helicopters, machinery, iron and steel, and chemical products to Nigeria. Nigeria exports crude oil and agricultural products to Türkiye,” the statement noted.
President Erdogan said the establishment of the Joint Economy and Trade Committee between the two countries will create opportunities to expand Turkish investments in Nigeria to realise the target.
President Erdogan praised the commitment of President Tinubu to develop Nigeria and highlighted the presence of several ministers and high-ranking officials as the most unambiguous indication of this political determination:
“Today, we conducted a comprehensive review of our relations with the esteemed President and his delegation in the fields of trade, investments, energy, education and defence industry, Ge added.
