President Bola Tinubu on Sunday ceded his entire personal salaries since assuming office in 2023 to a dedicated welfare fund for Armed Forces wounded service members, and families of those killed in action.
Speaking on the occasion his 74th birthday celebration, President Tinubu directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to set up a special account for the initiative.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President Bayo Onanuga in a statement said the fund will offer targeted aid to injured personnel, widows, widowers, and children of fallen soldiers.
“It is not charity; it is a duty,” Tinubu said, describing the effort as a national obligation beyond existing insurance programs.
He urged state governors, National Assembly members, private sector leaders, friends, and well-wishers to contribute, promising details soon.
The move is a further indication of President Tinubu’s pledge to boost military welfare amid ongoing security challenges, ensuring “dignity, care, and sustained support” for those safeguarding the nation.
