President Bola Tinubu congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Sunday after the incumbent secured re-election in Saturday’s vote, praising the conduct of the poll and urging electoral authorities to sustain improvements ahead of upcoming contests.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended residents of the southwestern state for what he called “peaceful and orderly conduct” and lauded security forces for maintaining law and order during the election.

He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue refining the conduct of “peaceful, free, fair and credible” elections ahead of the Osun governorship race in August and the 2027 general elections.

“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re‑election back‑to‑back,” the statement said.

The President highlighted achievements during Mr. Oyebanji’s first term under the BAO agenda — citing infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development — and described the renewed mandate as a “clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people‑centred governance.”

President Tinubu urged the Governor to remain magnanimous in victory and to include stakeholders in efforts to consolidate progress over the next four years.

He also commended rival candidates for participating and called on them to unite behind Mr. Oyebanji “in the interest of Ekiti State.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday declared Mr. Oyebanji of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner.

NewsQuest reports that Mr. Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, defeating his nearest challengers, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, across the state’s 16 local government areas.

Reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to partner with Ekiti’s administration, President Tinubu wished the governor wisdom, strength and good health as he begins a second term.
