President Bola Tinubu has appointed Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as Dorector-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development. The appointment takes effects from April 18, 2026.

A letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, said the four-year appointment was made under Section 7 (1) and (3) of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.

President Tinubu also approved the composition of the centre’s governing council, designating Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as chairman.

Other council members named were Lois Auta; Hon. Jamila Sarki; Aisha Baiyee; Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas; and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

The presidency extended congratulations and best wishes to the new Director-General and council members.

Mrs. Laniyi until the new appointment served as Mandate Secretary for the newly established Women Affairs Secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a position she assumed in October 2023.

Born in 1965 and hailing from Ogun State, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi brings over 35 years of experience in various fields such as communications consulting, social entrepreneurship, international mentoring, and environmental advocacy.

Her vast knowledge makes her an excellent fit for this crucial role in promoting the well-being and empowerment of women and children in the FCT.

The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development was established to promote women empowerment, gender equality, and socio-economic development for women across the country.

The centre serves as a national institution for research, training, and advocacy on women-related issues and programmes.
