President Bola Tinubu on Thursday appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The technologist and academic succeeds Professor Is-haq Oloyede following the expiration of his two-term tenure on July 31, 2026.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President Bayo Onanuga in a statement said Aina, who turns 40 in July, brings a blend of engineering expertise and public-sector experience to Nigeria’s national admissions agency.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent and completed both an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing at Loughborough University in the U.K.

Aina is also an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

A professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates to his National Youth Service, when he first worked with the board.

Over more than 15 years since graduation, he has advised federal and state governments on system design, digital transitions and institutional reforms aimed at improving examination integrity and administrative efficiency.

At 39 he became one of the country’s youngest professors in his field; his appointment will make him JAMB’s youngest registrar.

His consulting portfolio includes engagements with major examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, as well as various state education ministries, where he has worked on ICT systems and process optimisation.

Aina is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Onanuga’s statement said President Tinubu expects Aina to apply his technical knowledge and institutional experience to build on reforms implemented under Professor Oloyede and to guide the board through further digital and operational upgrades.
