Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has begun discussions with the management of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), to strategically enhance the nation’s oil and gas sector revenue generation.
Dr. Adedeji met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NUPRC, Mr. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, in Abuja, where they deliberated on strengthening institutional relations between the two agencies.
“During the meeting, both leaders discussed deepening collaboration in oil and gas revenue collection, with a focus on improving coordination, transparency, and efficiency to maximize government earnings from the upstream petroleum sector and support national development objectives,” a statement on the official Xhandle of the presidency on Monday said.
President Bola Tinubu on Monday January 5, 2026, appointed the new board and leadership of the NUPRC with a charge to the appointees to discharge their duties and responsibilities professionally as regulators of the oil and gas sectors, emphasising the strategic importance of effective oversight in the nation’s petroleum industry.
NewsQuest reports that the Federal Government forecasts N60.97 trillion in oil revenue for 2026, adopting conservative benchmarks of $64.85 per barrel and 1.84 million barrels per day production.
The government continues to double efforts in boosting oil and gas revenues amid fluctuating production and global prices, with the recent national budget projections and investments signalling a strategic push for higher earnings in the oil and gas sector.
