The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has praised Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his administration’s significant and impactful reforms in the health sector, particularly those that have ensured the welfare of healthcare professionals and strengthened the healthcare delivery system.

Governor Sani disclosed this on his official Facebook page after meeting with the leadership of the NMA in Kaduna.

He said “It was with utmost delight that I received, today, the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kaduna State Branch, on a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna State. The team was led by the Chairman, NMA Kaduna, Dr. Hassan Bala Salihu

According the Governor, during the engagement, the Association commended his administration for key reforms in the health sector: the swift approval and implementation of the 2024 CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures; the allocation of over 15 percent of Kaduna State’s annual budget to healthcare, and the enactment of the historic Mental Health Bill – the first in Northern Nigeria and only the third nationwide.

NMA also listed the establishment of KADSEMSAS; the completion of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu 300-Bed Specialist Hospital; the employment of 1800 health workers annually for the next 5years and Governor Sani’s pioneering the implementation of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) in Nigeria.

“These milestones, they noted, underscore our unwavering commitment to enhancing the welfare of health professionals and fortifying the healthcare delivery system.

“In my response, I expressed sincere appreciation for the NMA’s recognition of our administration’s efforts. With the significant improvements in security across Kaduna State, we are now poised to host the upcoming edition of the NMA National Games, an event previously deferred in 2020 due to safety concerns,” Governor Sani wrote.

The Governor announced that in recognition of the Association’s partnership and professionalism, he has approved the provision of an operational vehicle to support its activities, and the allocation of land for a dedicated housing scheme for its members.

“I also accepted, with a great sense of humility and deep gratitude, the Association’s invitation to serve as the Grand Patron of the NMA, Kaduna State Branch.

“Together, we shall sustain this momentum to deliver a more resilient healthcare system, advance medical excellence, and position Kaduna State as a beacon of medical tourism in Nigeria,” the Governor added.
