The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released results for its 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (Internal) showing that 58.67% of candidates earned five credits or above including English Language and Mathematics, a key benchmark for university admission and employment.
The Registrar of the council, Prof. Dantani Wushishi said a total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination while 1,371,992 candidates sat for it.
Announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, he said 804,948 (58.67%) candidates obtained five credits and above (including English & Math) while 1,162,118 (84.70%) candidates obtained five credits and above (all subjects).
The examination which took place between June 15 and July 23, 2026 took the results 63 days from date of last paper to be released, he added.
The NECO Registrar said examination malpractice fell sharply to 64.74% over year, with 1,406 candidates implicated in 2026 versus 3,878 in 2025.
He credited heightened vigilance by security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services, for helping deter wrongdoing and protect the exam’s integrity.
Prof. Wushishi thanked President Bola Tinubu for reappointing him to a second term and Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa for backing his leadership.
He said the 63-day turnaround followed completion of marking, verification and quality-assurance processes.
He said candidates can retrieve their results online via the NECO website using their examination registration numbers and result-checking tokens.
