Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has signed development agreements with two private firms to transform Jabi Lake into a major recreational hub.

The deals, inked with Suburban Broadband Limited and Akida Hills Limited, aim to revitalise the site at Abuja’s heart.

At the signing ceremony,bMinister Wike decried how speculators had stalled the city’s growth by sitting on undeveloped plots.

He said “Abuja is a fast-developing city, perfect for recreation,” adding that the era of land speculation is over.

Minister Wike issued a stark warning to holders of government land stressing that developments must begin within six months on issuance of any lands, or face revocation. “It is no longer business as usual,” he declared.

Suburban Broadband’s representative, Pankaj Khandelwal, hailed the agreement as a “landmark” for job creation and socioeconomic gains in the territory.

Akida Hills’ Bamisile Olukayode also praised Minister Wike’s resolve, vowing the project would rival New York’s Times Square and Dubai’s Fountain show.

He promised completion by the end of the year, aiming to position Abuja as a “destination city” on the world stage.

NewsQuest reports that Jabi Lake is a man-made reservoir in Abuja’s Jabi district, originally built as a water supply dam. It spans about 1,300 hectares and now serves as a popular spot for tourism, fishing, and recreation.
