Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State met on Monday with newly  appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, during an operational visit aimed at strengthening public safety amid ongoing security challenges.

IGP Disu, who recently led a police task force in clearance operations across the state, told reporters after the closed-door meeting that he was familiar with local issues, including recent arrests.

“I was in Kwara State about a month ago, leading a police component of the clearance operation that took place here,” Disu said.

“I am aware of the situation in Kwara, I am aware of all the arrests made, and I’m also aware of the present situation that we have.”

The IGP praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s support for police officers and assured residents nationwide, especially in Kwara, of renewed efforts to prevent lawlessness.

“I have come here today to see my officers, to encourage them, most especially to see the governor and thank him for the wonderful things he has been doing for officers of the Nigerian Police Force,” Disu added.

“I want to assure Nigerians that the police are waking up to their responsibilities.”

Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor Rafiu Ajakaye in a statement said accompanying IGP Disu were senior officers, including Kwara’s police commissioner, Adekunle Ojo, and Michael Oganwu, director of the state security service.

NewsQuest reports that the visit is part of the renewed efforts by  the police force’s to push for closer collaboration with state governments to combat crime in the central region of the country, and other parts.
