First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday inaugurated 11.5 kilometres of newly completed intra‑city roads in Makurdi, Benue State, and opened a community information‑technology centre as part of a broader urban‑renewal drive led by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The road works—part of the State’s Phase I Urban Renewal Programme—comprise 10 separate projects, including the dual carriageway on Shire Bakut Road and routes linking commercial and residential neighbourhoods across the city.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Lady Busola Kukoyi said the upgrades are intended to shorten travel times, improve security and boost local commerce.

“These roads are pathways to economic growth,” Senator Tinubu said in brief remarks, describing the projects as tangible examples of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

She urged residents to protect the new assets and to support the governor’s administration.

Governor Alia, who was elected in 2023 and is seeking re-election for a second term in 2027, described the works as measures to enhance accessibility and community connectivity within Makurdi.

He welcomed the First Lady’s visit and the attention brought to the state’s infrastructure priorities.

After the ribbon‑cutting, the First Lady travelled to Ihugh, in Vandekiya Local Government, to hand over a community ICT training centre established through a partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

The facility, named the Lucy Zaiyol Alluor Community ICT Centre after a local educationist, is the fourth such centre launched under the collaboration; others are in Bauchi, Kwara and Ibadan.

Oluremi Tinubu said the centre aims to accelerate economic diversification through digital skills training—particularly for women—and to expand access to education and formal employment.

At the ceremony she announced direct support for 1,000 women petty traders, each to receive 50,000 naira, a move intended to provide short‑term liquidity for small businesses.

The events attracted large crowds of residents and reflect a broader federal‑state partnership narrative that has accompanied infrastructure and digital‑skills initiatives nationwide.
