Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda has described the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as a vital economic engine that consistently drives the growth and development of Nigeria.
Governor Radda stated this when he visited the Executive Chairman of the FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji at the headquarters of the nation’s top tax agency in Abuja.
FIRS in a statement on its official Facebook page said “Governor Radda commended the Executive Chairman for his impactful leadership, describing the FIRS as ‘the engine room of Nigeria’s economic growth’.”
According to the FIRS, the visit highlights Katsina State’s commitment to the new tax laws and its willingness to collaborate with the FIRS on digital innovation, voluntary compliance, enforcement, and grassroots sensitization.
“Earlier today, the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, PhD, received the Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, at the FIRS Headquarters in Abuja,” the statement said.
NewsQuest reports that the FIRS is undergoing significant reforms aimed at modernizing the country’s tax system, improving efficiency, and promoting voluntary compliance, especially for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
In the new tax laws signed by President Bola Tinubu, the name of the organization effective January 2026 will change to Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).
Global financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have commended the FIRS for its progress and pledged continued support, with experts observing that under Dr. Adedeji leadership, the organization is fast being positioned as a modern, efficient, and taxpayer-friendly agency, critical to Nigeria’s economic development and fiscal sustainability.
