The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji on Friday met in Abuja with the leadership of Citibank Nigeria for crucial talks of partnership that would facilitate tax compliance and financial sector collaboration.
The bank was led to the headquarters of the FIRS by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Nneka Enwereji.
FIRS in a statement on its Facebook page said, “They discussed deepening partnerships to enhance tax compliance, financial sector synergy, and economic development.”
The country’s top tax agency under the leadership of Dr. Adedeji has actively been promoting tax compliance in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and voluntary compliance, as well as highlighting its desire to create a customer-centric tax administration system.
FIRS has witnessed significant improvements, including a 20 percent increase in tax compliance and the addition of over 170,000 new taxpayers.
NewsQuest reports that Dr. Adedeji also supports ongoing tax reform efforts by the Federal Government to enhance the country’s fiscal framework and improve operational efficiency.
According to the FIRS chairman, the agency is leveraging a new organizational structure and technology to simplify tax payment processes and encourage voluntary compliance.
