The Federal Government has approved N100 billion to install solar power systems in public institutions nationwide, aiming to tackle electricity shortages under a new initiative called the National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative.

Engineer Abba Aliyu, Manging Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, announced the funding during a visit to the agency’s Abuja headquarters by Justice Babatunde Adejumo, Administrator of the National Judicial Institute.

The programme targets government offices, hospitals, and schools grappling with unreliable power grids or soaring energy bills.

“This is part of President Bola Tinubu’s push to boost electricity access via renewables,” Aliyu said.

“The National Judicial Institute can benefit directly.”

Implementation is already underway at sites including the Department of State Services, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the National Hospital in Abuja, and various schools.

For the judicial institute, the agency plans an energy audit to size a solar mini-grid and distribution network appropriately.

Aliyu assured NJI leaders that the institute would be included as the rollout expands.

Justice Adejumo, speaking earlier, stressed reliable power’s role in judicial training and research.

“Stable electricity is essential for our operations,” he said.
