Benue State will Tuesday host the nation’s First Lady and chair of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for a two-part visit focused on women’s programming and urban infrastructure.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Tersoo Kulas said Senator Tinubu is scheduled to meet beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative, a federal programme aimed at empowering women, supporting families and boosting services for vulnerable populations.

The engagement is intended to deepen the programme’s reach at the local level.

Governor Hyacinth Alia has since welcomed the visit as an example of federal–state collaboration.

“This is another positive step in our joint efforts to improve the lives of citizens, especially women and families,” the Governor said.

The First Lady will also commission 10 newly completed intra-city roads in Makurdi — part of more than 45 projects delivered by the Governor Alia administration, the statement noted.

The 11.5-kilometer package is billed by the State government as a bid to improve mobility, stimulate local commerce and raise living standards in the capital.

The roads to be commissioned include Ishaya Bakut Road (dual carriageway); three offshoots of Ishaya Bakut Road; Abu King Shuluwa Road; Mama Mbateren Alia Street (formerly Keke Napep Road); the Dabo Plaza–Fashion Hub link; Sir James Iorpuu Street; Tyagher Gbaa Street; and Jato-Aka Road.

After the Makurdi ceremony, Senator Tinubu is due to travel to Ihugh to commission and hand over a Community ICT Centre, officials said.

Scholastica Bensor, Benue State coordinator for the Office of the First Lady and the Renewed Hope Initiative, said final preparations had been completed and urged broad public turnout.

“Women across Benue State are excited and eager to welcome the First Lady,” she said.
