All Progressives Congress hopeful for the 2027 Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency race, Dr. Livinus Tsar has pledged significant funds worth N30million to rebuild and secure a girls’ boarding school in Benue State.
His support comes after a string of fires that have repeatedly displaced pupils in the school.
Dr. Tsar, a politician and strong ally of the Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia in Konshisha, visited St. Winifred’s Girls Secondary School in Ihugh on June 2 to assess damage to the campus, where hostel blocks have burned in three separate incidents over the past eight months.
NewsQuest recalls that the fires—reported on October 28, 2025, May 11, 2026 and May 14, 2026—have destroyed multiple hostels but caused no reported fatalities.
Authorities moved some students temporarily to Queen of the Rosary Secondary School in Gboko and St. Mary’s Girls Secondary School in Adikpo.
Moved by the repeated losses, Dr. Tsar announced a N20 million donation to finance immediate reconstruction of the Fr. Albert Bulbwa hostel and to install solar lighting and closed‑circuit cameras at the school.
He said the project will improve security and provide reliable power, adding that a recently supplied solar system—valued at about N5 million—already supports perimeter CCTV coverage.
Dr. Tsar, who said his philanthropic activities in the state date back to 2010, put his total support for St. Winifred’s at roughly N30 million after also pledging N10 million toward completion of a new church at St. Winifred’s Parish, Ihugh.
“I grew up in Ihugh and used to attend the church,” he told our correspondent, describing the donations as continuity of long‑standing community engagement rather than campaign spending.
At the school, Dr. Tsar expressed sympathy for management, pupils and residents and urged local stakeholders to protect the institution.
He also called on political aspirants and incumbent officials to contribute to the school’s restoration, saying the welfare of the girls demanded “collective responsibility.”
Government officials have not publicly attributed the fires to a single cause; but investigators have described the outbreaks as “mysterious.”
The recent pattern of repeated blazes has heightened concerns among parents and residents over campus safety and the continuity of girls’ education in the area.
Dr. Tsar recently secured the APC House of Representatives ticket for the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency in Benue, winning the primary election with a total of 28,549 votes.
He defeated incumbent lawmaker for the constituency Sesoo Ikpagher and other aspirants – with a result that has been widely reported as a major upset in Benue APC primaries, where several serving federal lawmakers have lost their return bids.
