Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Saturday returned to the country following two diplomatic trips to Brazil and the United Kingdom, where he participated in the 2025 BRICS Summit and the African Achievers Awards.
The Benue State Governor was recently part of President Bola Tinubu’s delegation to attend the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro.
“Today, I safely returned home after a highly impactful diplomatic mission, first at the 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil, and then at the prestigious African Achievers Awards held at the UK Parliament in London.
“At the BRICS Summit, I had the honour of accompanying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as part of Nigeria’s delegation. We engaged with world leaders on strengthening global cooperation, with Benue State taking the spotlight in agro-industrialization; an area that holds immense promise for our people,” Governor Alia wrote on his official Facebook page.
The visit of the Governor is seen as significant for the ‘food basket State’ targeting to foster economic partnerships, especially leveraging Brazil’s expertise in mechanized agriculture, agro-processing, bio-energy, and infrastructure, which are sectors vital to the development of Benue.
According to Governor Alia, “Our strategic discussions with partners in agriculture, energy, technology, trade, and industrial development are already opening new doors for investment and collaboration.
“From Brazil to the UK, I carried with me the dreams and aspirations of the Benue people,” he added.
The Governor disclosed that at the African Achievers Awards in London, he was honoured with the Award for Excellence in Rural Development and named Champion of Women and Youth Inclusion.
“This award is for YOU, the hardworking farmers, youth, and strong women of our dear state.
“Upon my arrival, I was warmly received by the Benue APC Chairman, Chief Benjamin Omale; Secretary to the State Government, Dcns. Deborah Aber; the Commissioner of Works, Hon. Tiza Imojime; Benue ALGON Chairman, Hon. Maurice Orwough; members of the Benue State House of Assembly; and other top government officials. I sincerely thank them and every one of you for your continued prayers and support,” Governor Alia said.
NewsQuest reports that the Benue State Governor is strategically aligning his administration to benefit from the renewed cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil, following President Tinubu’s commitment to eliminating bureaucratic obstacles to accelerate bilateral agreements in agriculture and other sectors, to enhance food security, livestock production, and trade.
